Detroit Blue T-Shirt (SAMPLE)

I won’t get too soppy about him, because my dad would definitely not want that, but he is the reason why I like most of the stuff that I do. However, today we are going to concentrate on how much my dad loves American football and how much he adores his largely underachieving (to press) Detroit Lions. When I was younger my dad took me to watch a bloke called Barry Sanders in the baking hot sun of Tampa Bay in October, I had no idea who he was, but it made the other Barrie (my dad) very happy, so off we went.

I can’t remember much of the match, but I can remember how enthused my dad was to see him and how my dad wouldn’t pay $3 for a match programme, so he took one off a bloke who was throwing it into a bin, we still have it to this day and it is pictured here with my Barry Sanders toy that my dad got for me. If you then throw in the fact that my dad and I love Motown, My great uncle worked for General Motors in Detroit and many of my favourite rappers in the world are from the Motor City, it only made sense to work with Josh and Soft Goods to create a Detroit-made t-shirt.

Much like the city, the fabric is hefty, rugged and ready for anything. This fabric is the custom-knit just for Josh and is unlike anything that I have ever seen, it is so tough it seems to fold like a selvedge pair of jeans. The fabric is then cut and sewn into t-shirts by Josh’s wonderful team right in the heart of Detroit. Once made they are then taken to the dying facility where they are dyed to the original colour of what the Lions played in. There is also a handy TRiCKETT label in the side seam that has a little bit of the Detroit blue running through it, just for extra excitement. The whole process including the cotton is entirely American made and tips the hat to the wonderful manufacturing ability of Michigan.

The tees have a very traditional, American boxy cut and can be washed and washed looking better and better every time. These are much heftier than our favourite Shaka and Carlos t-shirts and have a price tag to go with them, but I genuinely believe that this will be a t-shirt that will last forever… or at least until my dad sees the Lions win the big one.
