Walker Socks

Walker Socks

Made in The United Kingdom

AVAILABLE IN

The Walker socks pay homage to my great Grandfather Robert Walker who earned the military medal for bravery in the great war. He volunteered for the army aged just 16, to serve his country and help his friends in a battle that would be ‘over by Christmas.’

During the first world war members of the British army were issued with ecru-coloured wool socks that quickly turned a lavender colour after the soliders poured antibacterial powder all over their feet in the same colour. This was to prevent trench foot and other associated diseases whilst in the horrendous conditions of the trenches.

Right up to the present day some cricket players still wear lavender socks as a sign of respect and to pay homage to the men and women from across the world that gave their lives during the war. The socks are made from two colours British wool (ecru and lavender) which are then knitted together to create a beautiful marled effect. They are ribbed through the foot and come with a cushioned sole for when you want to spend all day at the crease.

A donation will go to the Salvation Army for every pair that we sell as they were the only people waiting to tend to the troops in Lancashire when they returned from the front line in 1918. Something that my great grandfather mentioned at length.

In no way are we glorifying war, in any way, shape or form. These socks and the stories associated with my Grandfather should act as a warning to the indiscriminate human cost that war places on all of us. War is not the answer to the problems that we face in the 21st century and never will be.
