Soup Bowls

I like being unpredictable and with that unpredictability comes a level of ‘crikey at the start of the year I wouldn’t have expected us to be selling these’ however here we are and welcome to TRiCKETT.

I first saw these soup bowls when my mum and dad took my sister and I on a trip to the north of France for a summer holiday. We went into this restaurant where no-one spoke English and I remember seeing this French lad pouring soup down his PSG shirt (see I always remember a shirt) as he hadn’t quite mastered the ‘soup pour’ yet. So when I saw them being used in a fancy restaurant in Nice last year when I visited, I thought that we needed them in the shop.

These bowls are made on the west coast of France by Stéphanie and her team and are made to the same specification that bowls have been for decades. In fact the company sells so many of these bowls during the year to restaurants and tourists looking to decorate their own in the factory, they basically close down for the summer just to concentrate on replenishing stocks. Nice eh?

The bowls come in the prefect shape for soup and is the perfect portion size for whether you are having a light lunch or you want a soupy starter. The blue decoration is hand printed with sponge and blue glaze but people who has been doing it for years. The bowls are then marked with the names Zizou, TRiCKETT and Monsieur (which you can pick) that that you can tell which bowl belongs to who.

Zizou – my favourite French player.

TRiCKETT – because it is the company name.

Monsieur – because it looks nice on the bowl.

The bowl is specifically designed so that you can pour your soup, crisps, milk, whatever into your mouth using the handles on the side, rather than chasing the last dregs of your meal around with your spoon. Just make you your mum won’t shout at you when sipping from the bowl.
