You’ve been searching all over the place looking for the perfect shirt and, after all that, they were hiding right here in lovely Accrington.
Our popover style is a new one here at TRiCKETT, but one that I have wanted to make for absolutely ages and so spent a little bit of extra time getting all the details right so that you can’t go ‘I wish he would’ve added that’… anyway, on with the show. This style is inspired by a mix of traditional workwear and military clothing worn in the 1920s, the popover shirt was designed so that workers didn’t get their buttons caught in machinery when bending over. Even if you may not be operating heavy machinery whilst wearing this, it’s always nice to know the origins of things.
As with all of our wonderful shirts here at TRiCKETT, we start with the fabric and this one is a joy to wear. This shirt comes in a medium to heavyweight cotton oxford that is rugged, easy to wear and is the most traditional ivy cloth in the world. The collar is the traditional three-finger collar with buttons at the two collar points. There is a four button placket with a reinforced ‘X’ stitch at the bottom to reference my favourite rugby shirts, but some polo shirts (the ones you would actually play polo in) had this reinforcement too. Yes, I am a clothing history geek and proud of it.
There is a flapped chest pocket, buttons cuffs and a curved hem to make you look extra sleek. The buttons throughout the shirt are made from mother of pearl, not those cheap polyester buttons which most makers use nowadays. The fit is a touch looser than our ivy shirts as you need some extra room to get the shirt over your head, but it is not a huge difference. Always nice to have a little extra room in a shirt, especially when you want that extra slice of Basque cheesecake.
The shirts are designed to be tucked in and so have a little extra length in the body. If you plan on wearing this untucked and it is a little bit too long, go to your local tailor to get it sorted. When you do decide to do that, send us an image of the receipt from your tailor and we will send you a £10 voucher toward your next TRiCKETT purchase. See, it’s always good to support your local businesses.
The perfect shirt for all occasions, a £10 voucher if you get it adjusted and you’ll look like you know how to make things in a factory/ride a horse. Seems like a good deal to me!
100% cotton.
