“When in doubt, dress like Pablo Picasso” is always the advice that I give to anyone wanting to look effortlessly stylish, but with a bit of an edge. The exiled Spanish painter didn’t really come into a recognisable dress sense until he hit his fifties and was prancing around the south of France looking like a mixture of your favourite art teacher at secondary school and a retired French naval officer. His usual striped t-shirt and relaxed outfits made him a bit of a cult hero in fashion circles and it was all thanks to a small manufacturer in Brittany that he was able to look so effortlessly cool.
Le Minor have been making knitted items since 1922, mainly concentrating on marine-centric items such as heavy sweaters and marinière-style t-shirts. Interestingly, the ones that became the standard-issue for the French navy have 21 stripes on them, indicating the number of battles that Napoleon won. He didn’t win the big one, mind! Their striking pattern and easy visibilty at sea were the reason that they spread throughout the world as the t-shirt to wear at sea. These tops were then picked up by someone called Coco Chanel and I guess the rest is history.
This particular t-shirt by Le Minor was a favourite of Pablo and he was often photographed wearing it. I imagine he liked it due to the irregular stripe pattern which made it a little different from all of his other striped t-shirts. The cotton for the t-shirt is a lovely mid-weight that can be worn on its own in the summer and used as a layering piece in the winter. The fabric is a mix of a beautiful shade of ecru and the traditional French navy blue. There is a tiny Le Minor patch to the sleeve and a proper ribbed neck in a slightly darker shade. The cuffs are open so that you can roll them up to look like Pablo / work on your next masterpiece which is probably a decadent sandwich.
The sizing is very French, so we recommend going up a size, unless you like things to fit closer to the body. Even Pablo wore his a little oversized, but you are the boss.

Customers have 14 days from the day they receive their parcel to return it back to us. To be refundable, all products must be completely unworn and unwashed, and must be returned in their original condition. All international orders are final, no refunds, exchanges or credit notes.
