Mixing a polo shirt with a jumper and making it look like something you would want to wear is pretty difficult, but with the imaginatively named ‘Iain’ polo, I feel as if we have managed to do just that. As with all jumpers, we need to start with the yarn and we have picked a real belter to make your new favourite polo. This lovely wool is made by Rennie yarns right up in the north-east of Scotland who have been spinning a yarn since the late 18th century, so they know a thing or two about wool. The yarn is super soft and is washed and brushed to reduce itchiness and increase the cosiness.

The jumpers are then magically manufactured into jumpers by Stuart and his team in the Scottish Borders. This jumper is made using the ‘fully-fashioned’ method which means that the jumper comes out fully-knitted and then has the important bits attached by hand such as the collar and the buttons. Having no seams makes the jumper stronger and gives a much cleaner look.

The buttons on the polo are made from a special biodegradable material which is made to look like horn, but isn’t. The jumper comes in a standard fit so it can be worn on its own or as a layering piece. The collar size has been slightly increased to give the polo a bit more of an interesting edge and to combat those weird small collars that I’ve seen on a few shirts at the moment. The bigger the collar, the smaller your head looks, which is only a good thing for many of us and if you have a smaller head, a bigger collar makes everything just a little more in proportion… I don’t know how it works, but it does.

The collar is made from a chunky knit for durability and a ribbed cuff and hem to keep the chill out on those cooler nights on the French Riviera or if you spend too much time on the frozen food aisle. This jumper comes in the tomato red that we have named ‘La fauteuil rouge’ and I think it will fast become a favourite. This colour dances the line between orange and red beautifully – a shade which brightens up any wardrobe without going too bonkers! It also happens to be a colour that Pablo features in many of his artworks, especially for sofas / chairs, which is where you’ll mostly be wearing this.

If it matters to you, the ‘Iain’ name came from me having to come up with a code name of this jumper whilst sitting in a car park eating a Co-op sandwich and I was in a rush… Anyway, a jumper that you will never tire of wearing, which is made in the best jumper-making region in the world, using a premium yarn. I will take two!
