Chippy Tea in Transit Bag

The world has enough plastic bags, whether they are those striped numbers, single use, ‘bags for life’ that are meant to make you feel better about plastic, but in reality they are almost as bad, or those (equally bad for the environment) chippy ones with the ace illustrations on the side. So what I decided to do was create the ideal bag for transporting your chippy tea from the chippy to where you are going to consume it. Welcome to the ‘Chippy Tea in Transit’ bag.

Our bag is made from a lighter weight, insulating cotton that keeps your chips warm, but also allows for air circulation to reduce your chance of soggy chips. We did experiment with one of those insulated bags, but they were full of weird plastics that I didn’t really understand AND they often make your chips a bit wet and that is a real crime! There is a pocket that can fit two cans of pop so that they can be isolated away from your meal so that their icy cold temperature does nothing to reduce to piping hot nature of your fish supper.

The bag comes with two herringbone twill handles for extra reinforcement and for grip as you run outside of the chippy and get home as quick as you can so that you can feed yourself / your mates. Whilst we apply a sense of urgency to running from the chippy to your kitchen table, often people don’t recognise this, so we got to work on a classic illustration which lets people know that there are chips in this bag and they should make way. The fifth emergency service as it is deemed here in Lancashire. The print takes inspiration from those classic chippy bag illustrations and lets people know you are in a rush with the words ‘Chippy Tea in Transit’ above and below the fish sitting on a bed of chips with a pie and peas either side.

The bags themselves are manufactured in Accrington by Nicki and the team. I would not trust anyone else to make the bags as they understand the value of a hot plate of chips and as a result have made sure every stitch is sewn to the highest level. The bags are then printed by hand in Huddersfield by Jim in a friendly, but informative tone of blue, like the blue lights you see when you require your emergency chippy service.

The bag can fit in 10 large bags of chips and 3 tins of pop as a maximum, so more than ample for most orders and should you need more than that either open your own chippy or buy another bag, whatever works for you.
