It was a cold day in September when I pulled into a busy car park in Braemar. I looked around and there were people in green tartan trousers running around helping hotel guests load and unload their cars. Amongst this melee stood an old Scottish hotel which had been recently renovated to become one of the best hotels in the world. I strode into the grand lobby and was greeted by a warm welcome and a priceless Picasso in the lounge area. It was at that point, I decided that I needed to curl up with a dram and design some jumpers inspired by my favourite hotel and area in Aberdeenshire.
If you are new around here, I want to take this moment to tell you that I take knitwear very, very seriously. Maybe even more seriously than I take eating pizza and I take that very seriously…
Before we go much further on this woolly voyage of discovery, it is worth mentioning that our jumper makers are in Aberdeenshire, because I take making things in the right place far too seriously. They have been making woollen garments since 1929 and are the perfect mix of old-school knowledge with very modern production techniques, which is lovely.
Our jumpers are made from a wonderful Shetland yarn that was sheared, spun, and finished on the island and then sent to the manufacturer in Aberdeenshire for them to work their knitting wizardry on. The yarn is soft, warm and light which goes to create an unbeatable jumper. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, the jumpers are then brushed by hand to increase the softness, the loft and to make them look like they are pre-broken in. This way you can say something like ‘Oh yeah, I got this in the ’70s when we took the yacht to Sag Harbor’ when we all know you weren’t even born then.
Loch Muick is located in the Cairngorms National Park and is one of my most favourite lakes in the whole of Scotland. The water has an almost glassy tint to it that makes you feel like you are in a Disney film and are about to have a revelation. The colour is a deep and rich navy blue that pretty much goes with all outfits and will fast become your go-to jumper of choice.
The jumper comes with a crewneck that is nice and high with ribbed cuffs and hem to keep the cold out whether you are watching football, taking the dog out or spending too much time on the frozen food aisle. The fit is a traditional British fit that isn’t too big and it isn’t too small, I would say perfect but I designed it all so I guess that I would. And as if that wasn’t enough, the new TRiCKETT Knitwear labels may well be the best that we have ever done… The type of jumper you will want to take off and show everyone your label, but mind your elbow knocking the soup bowl at Sunday lunch!
Made in Scotland, brushed to perfection and a colour that you won’t find anywhere else. Stop messing about and get one in your basket.
100% Shetland wool.
