For some reason, and I don’t fully understand why, I have dedicated a big chunk of my personal and working life to finding, researching, designing and making heavy t-shirts. It started with me and my dad not liking football shirts with a ‘gapey’ neck, continued with wondering where Dr. Dre got his t-shirts from, to now getting to our fourth of what I think is the perfect t-shirt. So here we are in 2025 with an updated version of what I think might be our best yet… but I would say that.
So, as always, we start with the fabric. This has been especially made for TRiCKETT in collaboration with Filipe and the sewing team in Portugal, the fabric manufacturer on the outskirts of Porto, the cotton supplier in Kenya and us… in Accy. The fabric is a beautifully soft, heavyweight and textured jersey that just seems to get better and better with each wear and wash. There is an up-close image for you to see just how special this fabric is… but my advice is just to get one in your wardrobe.
The fit of the t-shirt is absolutely standard, because the fabric is so thick you may want to consider going up a size to make things a drape a little nicer and give a slightly more modern fit, but that is entirely up to you. For reference, Luca is wearing a large and a medium so you can judge for yourself. The neck is high, the sleeves are slightly wider and the shoulders have a little extra wiggle room for when you are needing the stretch to accommodate that extra slice of cake. The colour is an exact replica of the first shirt that Diego wore when he signed for Napoli, which is a nice touch I think… Or it is just a right nice bluw.
The labels in these t-shirts are a first for us too, each size is printed with our ‘Roupa de Sportiva’ logo which features a sardine lashing home a volley into the back of the fisherman’s net. Each size comes in a different label colour just to make things extra collectable, with the actual labels themselves infused with lavender oil from France that is designed to stick to the back of your neck when you get too hot and to calm you down. It works with me and lasts up to five washes, depending on how stressed you get. Don’t worry, they don’t smell of lavender, if that isn’t your bag.
With the release of our hefty t-shirts I wanted them to be packaged in something super special and so I did just that. This packaging idea first came into my brain when I visited our t-shirt maker in Portugal and saw a similar package on the side in the office. Filipe told me that this was packaging was made for a super swanky French brand and that it was similar to what some fisherman used to pack their wares in at the market in Porto. I was in “hook, line and sinker”. So here it is, recycled paper, twine tie, sartorial nutritional information and sealed with natural gum.
So let me get this straight, a custom fabric, labels that calm you down, a great fit, wonderful packaging and they are only £35? Yes, that is correct and if you want to make the accountant even more annoyed you can mix and match these t-shirts with any on our website and get 3 for £79, if that doesn’t encourage you to throw all your other t-shirts into the charity donation pile then I don’t know what will.
100% cotton.
