Cowboy shirts get a bit of a weird representation in the world, but I am here to tell you that you need one in your wardrobe and that the TRiCKETT shirt is pretty much the only version that you will ever need. Cowboy shirts mix all of those things I love about utilitarian shirts, plus a little bit of flair that makes them one of those things that once you wear, you will never want to stop wearing. So saddle up and let’s get into it cowboy.
We start with our custom-woven denim fabric that is that perfect weight which sits between being a full on pair of jeans for your chest and a normal shirt that you would wear for work. The fabric has a fairly loose weave so it is ideal for those warm afternoons on the ranch, when you stand too close to a radiator or you just want to wear it on its own at the pub, just remember to wear something on your bottom half… can’t have you banned from the line-dancing club. The shirt is dyed using natural dyes so there will be a bit of dye transfer for the first few washes, so I recommend wearing a dark t-shirt underneath for a few wears, just to let the excess dye bleed out.
I thought that the introduction of the cowboy shirt to our collection needed to be gradual, so that is why the whole shape and fit is based on our super-popular ivy shirt. That means you get a nice, loose, but not baggy, fit with plenty of articulation across the shoulders and waist, but without sacrificing style. You get a button-down collar and tie-stay button at the back should you wish to look like a Texan billionaire about to buy the Dallas Cowboys wearing this shirt with a tie. The thing that tips the shirt towards the ‘Cowboy’ variety are the ‘saw tooth’ pockets on the chest. They are called ‘saw tooth’ because they look like the zig-zag shapes on a saw… I wish it was more complex than that. They are a little rarer than the traditional point pockets that you see on normal western shirts, but you deserve it because you are special.
All the usual details that you would expect on your TRiCKETT shirt are present here, mother of pearl buttons, curved hem, button on the sleeve placket and a beautiful collar roll even using this denim. Our shirts are made to the highest of standards by Anabela and Antonio in Portugal, what they don’t know about woven garments isn’t worth knowing. The shirts come with a garment wash, as per Anabela’s recommendation, so they look like you have already broken it in by riding around a ranch with this on, nonchalantly lassoing anything that moves. It gives the shirt a nice lived-in feel that feels great as soon as you put it on.
Wear it with a suit, under a jumper, or, if you are brave, on its own. Our Cowboy shirt seems to mix all of those things we love about Italians and their obsession with the wild west of America as well as shirt that looks like it could take anything you could handle. So get one and ride off into the sunset.
