College scarves are one of those things that we do really well in the UK. Whilst doing my research I have heard conflicting tales about who was the first university to make them. Some say Cambridge, some say Oxford, but one thing they all agree on is that it was the rowing teams who said they needed something to keep them warm when training.
Originally, the scarves were knitted with stripes through them but during the first world war when raw materials became scarce, the scarves were made by cutting up pieces of fabric and sewing them together, a technique which is still used to this day. The fabric for our scarves is made in Leeds using the finest British yarns and then cut, sewn and finished right here in lovely Lancashire. We have two colours available in our scarves:
Spalletti – for those of us who want to look like a disgruntled Italian football manager. Blue, red, white and green
Team Stripe – The most TRCiKETT of TRiCKETT scarves. Navy, grey and white.
The big chill is on the way and there is not a more beautiful way to achieve a cosy neck than donning one of these. If you are struggling for inspiration on how to tie the knot on your scarf, click here for five of our favourite options. A warm neck that looks this good and probably helps you to become a better rower? I am happy with that!
