I hope that it is fairly obvious, but to avoid all doubt, I love jumpers. I love that they are a touch more formal than a sweatshirt, I love how they are made and I particularly love this jumper because it does all the things I want a jumper to do, so let’s dig into why.
First up, our sweaters are made for us in Scotland by Stuart and his very talented team. Whatever requests we threw at Stuart, he always managed to come up with a solution and in most cases made the jumper even better. The first example of this is the saddle shoulders which were once a feature of all jumpers, but have since been ditched because it is a time consuming process. The saddle shoulder gives the jumper some stability across the shoulders, makes the seams stronger and it just looks ace too. When you have one of these jumpers in your hands and you look at the chain knit under the arm pit you’ll think ‘Crikey, Iain was right.’ There are no side seams on this jumper to increase the stretch around your mid section and to reduce the tension on those side seams, ensuring your jumper lasts as long as possible.
The yarn for these jumpers was originally made as an exclusive for an incredibly high-end Italian brand that we can’t mention, but rest-assured they are one of the biggest names in clothing. The treatment used on the wool makes it silky smooth, warm and breathable, which is no mean feat. As if that wasn’t enough, our jumpers have an Italian turn-back cuff which means that whatever your arm length, you can wear one of these. The turn-back cuff is meant to have originated in the Italian army. This way you could wear your watch over your sleeve and then turn back the cuff over your watch to keep the heat in, without having to expose skin. A keen enthusiast of this was the ultra stylish Gianni Agnelli.
The jumpers are finished with a ribbed hem and a chunky, slightly higher crewneck, so they can be layered with a shirt or t-shirt underneath. They come in three shades which are inspired by my favourite car model of all time and will be great for the coming wintery onslaught.
Braemar Blue – Inspired by the beautiful Clunie Water which flows through the heart of Braemar, the beautiful colour of the jumper is a mixture of about seven shades of blue. Braemar also holds the record for the most consistently cold place in the UK, so you’ll definitely need a jumper if you visit.
Gretna Green – A mixture of greens inspired by the hills just over the Scottish border, where these jumpers just so happen to be made.
Cairngorms Claret – Whatever your tipple, sitting by a roaring fire in the north-east of Scotland whilst wearing something warm is about as good as it gets. This colour is inspired by one of my dad’s favourite jumpers and the fact that it happens to add a bit of colour to any outfit.
You’ll probably want to go full ‘old Italian man’ when wearing these and we wouldn’t blame you. I have been wearing mine with loafers and cream jeans and I couldn’t be happier.
Made in Scotland from 100% British wool.
