When taking one of my semi-regular trips to northern Scotland, I was struck by two things:
1. How beautiful the landscape is
2. How much I like red squirrels.
Whilst carefully driving around (after seeing the huge signs at the side of the road) where my little red, furry mates like to hang out, I saw that some drivers had not been so careful. So from that point onwards, I made it my mission to do as much as I could to care for the British red squirrel.
I got my thinking cap on and decided to mix two rare British species, the red squirrel and the TRiCKETT polo shirt. This year, we have gone for a more traditional polo shirt with a patch on the front featuring our pal Cyril, clutching his favourite acorn (the symbol of Accrington) and we have even given him a fluffy tail for an extra bit of excitement.
The polo shirts are finished with a three-button placket with mother-of-pearl buttons. The shirts also happen to follow the exact measurements of a well-known brand that likes to put a reptile on their polo shirts. The collar and sleeve cuffs come in the traditional rib and soften up after a while, shaping to your neck and arms, like all good polo shirts should do. The fabric is a mid-weight cotton pique that is knitted and dyed just for us in Portugal. The shirts are also sewn in Portugal by our friend Filipe and his team. The green is the exact shade of my favourite forest in north-west Scotland, Achnashellach Forest, where these red beauties thrive.
We will make a donation from the sale of each shirt to local red squirrel protection charities, for them to maintain their wonderful work in conserving this incredibly endangered, indigenous British species. You just need to do your part by slowing down a bit when you are in a red squirrel zone, buy a polo shirt and spread the word.
Luca wears a medium and I wear an XXL in these as I want a bit more room. These come in the traditional ‘trim’ fit of polos from the ’60s, so if you fancy a bit more room we recommend sizing up.
Save the squirrels and look great in your new polo shirt. Sounds like a good deal to me!

All cotton pique will shrink a bit when washed and the stretch out again after wearing so don’t panic. To reduce this, we recommend going up a size or just washing carefully with no tumble drying!
