The Mehra jacket is always a favourite here at TRiCKETT. It’s a shape which can be dressed up or down, looks great with jeans or tailoring, has lots of useful pockets and this particular jacket comes in an absolutely amazing patchwork fabric, but more on that later. I wanted something unstructured which looked super cool and could be worn year-round. Our jacket comes with three front pockets – two on each side at the bottom and one on the left chest with a divider for a pen, slim cigar or a Pepperami… whatever floats your boat.
The fabric is a super rare Madras patchwork and it is almost impossible to get your hands on in this day and age. Hugely popular throughout the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s and ’90s amongst Ivy League enthusiasts, the fabric is made up of individually cut pieces of Madras fabric which are painstakingly sewn together to create a beautiful, random patchwork fabric. As you can imagine, this means that each and every jacket is completely unique with no two being the same. Many of these jackets are lined, but we left ours unlined to showcase the incredible work that goes into stitching each piece together.
The jacket is light enough to be worn alone, but I like to wear it as an outer layer or under a jacket. Basically, this piece elevates any outfit to another dimension. Can we use the word ‘delicious’ to describe a jacket? I think we just did. On the subject of food, we have our custom sausage roll pocket on the inside of the jacket just in case you need a delicious snack in your delicious jacket. A phone will also fit in there so it’s a win-win in terms of storage! The jacket is finished with vintage horn buttons down the front and cuffs, plus a TRiCKETT flag label to the chest pocket.
Upender makes these for us in Bolton and, by crikey, he does a good job. So much so he even kept one for himself… a proper compliment if you ask me.
This style of jacket always seems to fly out of the door, so if you want one… hop to it!
