If you have been hanging around on the good ship TRiCKETT for long enough, you will know that we take making sweatshirts very seriously. In fact, the first one that we released with Anabela was at least three years in the making, which only goes to show that we know our cotton. This year, we took a whole year to develop our sweatshirts and have even come up with a new style, the Makinson, and here is why you need one in your wardrobe.
The first thing that we always start with here at TRiCKETT is the fabric and we have given what was already an excellent cloth a bit of an upgrade. The fabric is knitted for us in Portugal using a super-secret recipe that is made just for us. Just because we like you, we will tell you that it is a SUPER hefty 560gsm knit which is truly market-leading as regards comfort and quality. The face is super soft and the back of the fabric is brushed for extra comfort and warmth. The fabric is then sent to Filipe in Porto to make into these wonderful zipped sweatshirts and here is what goes into making the perfect TRiCKETT sweatshirt.
The tops are sewn together using a triple-needle machine which basically means that they are really well put together. There is a ribbed hem and cuffs to keep the cold out and a nice high neck to keep your neck warm in the cooler months. At the back of the neck there is an appliqued TRiCKETT logo, which is expertly embroidered down the road by Filipe’s mate. We have been working with this particular factory for over five years now and the quality of their work just seems to get better and better. So now you have a wonderfully made sweatshirt, manufactured in a beautiful fabric, now to get it dyed the right colour.
Once these sweatshirts have been made and embroidered, they make their way to the dye house. Each of these sweatshirts is piece-dyed similar to how that expensive Italian brand with a compass dyes their garments. However, our sweatshirts are dyed using natural dyes and processes that don’t harm the environment. This particular dye reacts with the fabric and gives it a ‘shock’ which helps to show all the beautiful movement in the sweatshirt. This helps to create a unique sweatshirt and a really great depth of colour.
Talking of the colour, this sweatshirt comes in our ‘Grass Stain’ colourway, which pays homage to the nostalgia of your mum telling you not to get grass stains on your new tracksuit bottoms… however those last ditch tackles won’t make themselves… This colour is a toned down green that has flecks of white and slightly darker greens running throughout. This is our favourite colour of the whole collection… it also goes well with our Aurora check workshirt… see, we do know what we are doing sometimes.
The zipped sweatshirts are finished with a zip, which are made in Portugal by Filipe’s mate and then washed for a final time to reduce shrinkage. The fit of these is a little shorter than our usual stuff that we usually have made in Portugal and we have added a little bit of extra space across the tummy so that you can get that extra slice of tiramisu. If you have had any of our older Kershaw or Super heavy sweatshirts, we recommend going for the size that you had in those.
Beautiful fabrics, constructions, colours and embroidery. I don’t really know what else you could possibly want from a sweatshirt… well, maybe apart from having it on your body.
