McTotally Shorts

When summer rolls around, it is always difficult to pick a pair of shorts that will see you through the warmer weather. You know you need to replace the FUBU ones you had from 1999, but you like the mesh liner in them. You want a pair of swim shorts, but the cut of them always make you look a bit weird… and they never have decent pockets either.

So what we decided to do was make a pair of shorts that can take you from the beach, to the barbecue and, if needed, the boardroom. Our shorts all come with a 6″ inseam. This means that they are short enough to be classed as shorts, but not so short that you may get a few indecent exposure charges. The shorts are cut with plenty of room in the thigh, but not so much that you create a life raft when you jump in the sea. There are two pockets at the front and a secure velcro one at the back – perfect for keys and anything you need to keep on you that’s OK getting soaked. We put a drain hole in that back pocket so that you aren’t carrying excess water. There’s also a mesh liner inside the shorts to keep everything in place and means that you can jump in and out of the sea/pool/bath in these.

The shorts are finished with an elasticated waist, a split-seam for extra movement and a waist cord that is tonal and dipped in wax. My mum got me a pair of Benetton shorts with a cord similar to this when I was a kid and I was obsessed with the waxyness! I thought it would be good to do the same on these so that you can feel how ace it is.

The fabric we used on these is our ‘McTotally Tartan.’ When the 2024/25 season for Napoli started, I didn’t necessarily have Scott McTominay as the one spearheading Napoli’s charge for a league title, but if there is anything you need to know about life, it is to expect the unexpected. So we decided to create a tartan paying homage to the colours of Napoli, Lancashire (he was born in Lancaster and raised in Preston) and to give a nod of the tam o shanter to the country which he represents at international level. Nice eh? As a side note, Neapolitans call him McTomini or McTotally because they find it impossible to pronounce McTominay. I like McTotally, because I think it encapsulates the way that he plays best.

We could’ve just got a pair of shorts and slapped our logo on them like so many brands do, but as you know, that’s not how we do things around here. Get yourself a pair of our summer shorts and just wait for the sun to arrive.
