‘La foto con Dios’ or ‘The photo with God’ is a book by the very talented Carlo Rainone which has taken years of research and patience. It could well be one of my all-time favourite documentaries of Diego due to the personal stories and wonderful amateur photography.
The book features photography and stories by ordinary people who met Diego during his time in Italy. Each photograph shows how he was loved by many and was maybe even the most famous man in the country at that moment. From shoe shops to restaurants, from first communions to outside the training centre, there are images of Diego enjoying himself and sometimes… not enjoying himself.
This is probably my favourite book about Maradona due to the personal interactions documented within it. For me, it is also a wonderful reference book for researching fashion from the era. We are the only shop outside of Italy to stock the book, so it is a real collector’s piece. Please keep in mind that all the text is in Italian, but I know you’ll only be looking at the pictures anyway.
