Good things come to those who wait and I know that this shirt has taken a while to land in the shop… sorry. However, a lot like the person that this shirt is named after, even though they are ALWAYS late, it is worth hanging around for them… even if they do lock their keys in their flat over and over again… I digress.
The Durber shirt is entirely made in this country and when I say entirely I really do mean it, even the thread that was used to sew this garment together was made in the UK, that is just how dedicated I am to the cause. So as with all wonderful clothes, let’s start with the fabric, this is a 100% wool gun club check which has been designed specifically for TRiCKETT by me (Iain). The fabric is woven and finished in Selkirk by Robin and his team. I first met Robin when I walked into his office, threw a pair of socks at him and asked if he could make us some fabric. Thankfully he said yes and didn’t call the police. Robin is one of the last few commission weavers left in the whole of the UK, what this means for us/you is that he is happy to make small runs of fabric for smaller companies to ensure that they get exactly what they want without making 4 million metres that you will never use. This fabric comes in a classic gun check which is on a base of cream and features all the colours of Accrington. Mid-green, light green, brick orange and blue.
The buttons are from a vintage stock which Upender bought from a company in Birmingham that is now defunct, however at one point they were the biggest button manufacturer in the world… how about that for a fact? The zips are made in Leicester by the last zip manufacturer in the country – each zip is made by hand, measured and inspected by an actual person before it is sent on to us. Each zip pull is added to the zip by hand as there is no way to do this via a machine. The zip we have is a super chunky two-way zip. This means that you can unzip it when sat down waiting, driving etc, without having to fully unzip your shirt… it also looks great too.
The shirt is then assembled in Bolton by our dear friend Upender in Bolton, there is a nice film all about him in our ‘Meet the maker’ section on this page. Upender has also added a fabric to the inside cuffs, collar and to keep the zip in place and he tells me that this fabric was made in Todmorden, so everything truly is made in the UK. Now that I have told you all about the makers, now it is time for the features.
The Durber has a raglan sleeve for increased mobility and because we think it looks really good. There is a standard collar with a button so that you can button the shirt all the way up to the top when it gets a little chilly. There are two patch pockets to the front chest and a buttoned cuff. The zip adds a little contemporary flair to the top and ensures that it isn’t just a big button-down shirt. The Durber comes in a standard fit, no need to size up or down, just go for your normal size. Chris, our model, is an XL in everything and wears an XL here.
With the warmer weather on the way this will be your ideal ‘Ooh, it might get a bit cold in the evening after the barbecue’ shirt and when the temperatures start falling again, this will be your ultimate layering piece. So whether you wear it on the beaches of Margate, the nightclubs of Hanley, the university campuses of Liverpool or wear it to lose your keys/passport anywhere else on planet Earth, this shirt will be a loyal friend for years to come.
