Let me take you all the way back to 1997 when a young, impressionable Iain Trickett was sat in his bedroom listening to Snoop Dogg and reading the Source. In that particular issue there was a poster of Snoop wearing this high-necked, slightly loose, super-heavy fabric, boxy t-shirt in a crisp white and he looked absolutely amazing. From that point forward I made it my mission to find this t-shirt. About 6 years later, I found the exact t-shirt whilst browsing a shop in Florida and for me, t-shirts have never been the same.
Shaka Wear t-shirts have been the preferred choice of Californian t-shirt connoisseurs for decades because they have a neck- hugging neckline, loose sleeves, a WHOPPING 250gsm fabric and just launder really well. In fact, my all-time favourite t-shirt (Mr. Cartoon tattoo shop) is printed on one of these and it looks just as good as the day I bought it… minus the curry stain from 2019.
They come in 5 street- friendly colours which go with any wardrobe. Our friend in LA, Jose, says that these are the only 5 colours you need and he has worked at Shaka Wear for 3 decades… so we will take his word for it. He also mentioned that, unlike competitors, Shaka has two rows of stitching around the neck for extra ruggedness. The sizing is a little different to our usual sizing, so make sure to check the size chart.
Everyone from Jay-Z to Dr. Dre to Snoop and everyone else has been spotted in one of these at one time or another and for £13.75, I am not sure you can do better… unlike Dr. Dre when he made the Chronic and then the Chronic 2001… but let’s not split hairs.
Fabric made in the USA, t-shirts manufactured in Honduras.
