When you think about it, I don’t really understand why we haven’t done a pizza plate before now. I like pizza and I like crockery, so to make something like this has been staring me in the face for ages. Anyway, welcome to the TRiCKETT pizza plate. It is exactly like those that you get at dead posh restaurants in Napoli that you wish you could nick, but these things are like 30cm in diameter and you don’t have a bag big enough.
These beauties are hand-decorated for us in the traditional ‘Vietri’ style by our friend Diego (not that one) and they look good enough to eat… but please don’t. Vietri is a style that originated in the Salerno region and has spread throughout the whole of the south of Italy, the vibrant colours and local clay are what separate it from other traditional ceramics. This particular plate is 30cm and is decorated with ‘TRiCKETT pizza’ and it even has the basil in the centre, perfect.
Pizzas are extra fun when you serve them on one of these plates and you can pretend to be all Neapolitan and complain about the quality of your frozen supermarket pizza… however those Gino D’Acampo ones from ASDA are pretty good if you want to give them a try.
Made in Napoli.
