You’ve been searching all over the place looking for the perfect Madras shirt and after all that, they were hiding right here in lovely Accrington.

The first thing to note is the fabric, ours comes straight from Chennai, India, the spiritual home of Madras fabric where it is still loomed by hand by amazing artisans. This fabric has quite a loose weave to allow it to be worn in warm climates to keep you nice and cool. The original check patterns were originally used in everything from bedsheets to saaris and eventually ended up being exported to the UK and USA to be made into casual shirts. Many brands call their fabric ‘Madras’ when it is made everywhere but India, but seeing as authenticity is our number one priority, we searched high and low until we found the real deal.

Each piece of fabric is different to another, there will be small slubs and slight imperfections throughout, which only help to add to the character of this wonderful shirt. It is also jam-packed full of the mid-century design details that you could expect from us, so here we go. The collar is the traditional button down with a button at the back to keep your collar nice and flat. Speaking of the collar, it is a natural, soft collar with a wonderful roll… no fusing or glue used here, therefore no irritation. There is a chest pocket, French seams, curved hem, locker loop at the back and button on the sleeve placket.

I know that you shouldn’t have favourites in life, but I think this ‘Martin’ colourway might be my favourite . Red, orange, brown, white, navy and then the tiniest hint of green. This is the epitome of a shirt that you don’t see every day – a little bit of flair whilst still looking muted enough to be work-appropriate.The fit is classic, but by no means sloppy, so it can be worn with jeans, tailoring or shorts… it really is that versatile. Here at TRiCKETT we like to wear it with a plain white t-shirt underneath and boat shoes to complete the look, but however you wear it, it’ll look great.

The shirts are made in Portugal by Antonio and his wonderful team who have done a wonderful job of recreating a shirt from our archive and adding in a few extra fit details that we wanted to change. I think we have made your new favourite shirt and I couldn’t be happier about it.
