We have resisted going full-on ‘coffee brand’ for a long time. As much as I wish that I could just run a dedicated Neapolitan coffee bar in Accrington, it probably wouldn’t have the impact that I would want it to have. So I console myself by making THE best coffee-related paraphernalia that I possibly can and this tamper is just one such item.

For those of you who don’t know, a coffee tamper is designed to compact your coffee when the grounds are in the basket just before you pop it into the machine and pull your espresso. This, in turn, creates more pressure, makes it harder for the water to get through the ‘puck’ and helps to create that beautiful crema we all want from our espresso. However, if all that sounds too much like hard work, it is a beautiful object which looks great next to your coffee machine or on a shelf.

Ours are made for us by Motta in the north of Italy. They have been making coffee and food equipment for decades and are generally regarded as the best in the business. This beauty is made from stainless steel and inlaid wood which helps to give the tamper this striped look. I haven’t taken my eyes off it since we got them in and I am fairly sure that it will become a favourite in your home too.
