I know, what an absolute belter.
Now before we get into too many of the details, I have been a huge fan of Rocky Mountain Featherbed (RMFB) since their re-release in 2005. I loved the vintage style and completely over-the-top construction and seeing as they were originally developed in the ’80s in Wyoming, USA I loved them even more. Then when I found out that they’d gone out of business and main man Kinji Teramoto (founder of Anatomica) bought the name, the original fabrics and machinery and then started making them in his home country of Japan, I got a bit lightheaded… in a good way. So with TRiCKETT now 10 years old and sometimes it is just worth splashing out on something extra special, we got in touch with Kinji and the team, asked if we could make a jacket and remarkably… they said yes!
The stand out part of the jacket is the leather yoke on the shoulders, this is a common feature of many western shirts and garments that hard working people on ranches use. Seeing as the only ranch you’ll be working hard on is working out how to get the ranch dressing out of the bottle, I think it is safe to say that you’ll be alright with this super rugged leather piece. At the neck is some wonderfully soft wool that is actually from the USA believe it or not, use it as a replacement for a scarf or try to make people believe you have a very impressive cream neck beard. The down in jacket is made from premium European down which is a mix of 90% down, 10% feather (which is then treated in Japan) for a really light, but warm jacket.
The jacket fabric is made from a replica of the original fabric that was a precursor to Gore-Tex and has a wonderfully vintage feel to it. Our custom version comes in navy blue with a grey lining, this is exclusive to us and you won’t be able to find it anywhere else, how exciting is that? There are two hand warmer pockets at the front that then have a velcro pocket inside them so that you can compartmentalise your storage within the pocket… how ace is that?
The cuffs are elasticated and have a two button adjustment to keep the cold out. On the subject of buttons there are 8 mother of pearl snaps down the front of the jacket with custom RMFB back plates, which are just so fancy I could cry. The jacket is then finished off with a zipped inside pocket for keys, coins or whatever else and a leather patch at the inside neck with climbing rope hanging loop.
Luca is wearing a medium (Size 44 in RMFB language) and we recommend you taking your normal size. The fit is a little boxy, like all good down jackets should be and features a drop tail so that you can wear it on your bike and not get a cold back. I don’t have anything else to say other than I think you will love wearing this jacket and I don’t say this lightly when I say I know you’ll still be wearing this come our 20th Anniversary.
