Campos Jersey

For some of you, this has been a very long wait indeed. In fact, when I looked back at my Instagram posts, I saw that we had been teasing this for over 16 months which is pretty crazy. The reason why it has taken so long is pretty unbelievable, but it does involve a fire escape, chicken shed, eggs and knitting machines. I will let you make the rest up for yourself.

Onto the fun bit. This jersey is inspired by a top that was worn by my favourite Mexican goalkeeper in 1997. It was worn once for a friendly and then never saw the light of day again. After doing A LOT of research, it turns out that it was a local rugby team’s jersey that was adapted for playing football in. Apparently there was a white number one on the back, if you are interested in that type of thing.

The shirt is made from a heavyweight knitted cotton that features vertical stripes of red, navy, yellow and green which is knitted on site by Roy and finished in Leicester. The sleeves are red with a navy stripe down each arm. The collar is the traditional polycotton  in white that is synonymous with this type of top and a split hem, reinforced with cotton herringbone, should you decide to make a point blank save. The buttons are also made from rubber and they cuffs are ribbed, just like the original.

The jerseys are made for us by Roy and Helen in Leicestershire, in THE last dedicated rugby shirt manufacturing site in the whole of the UK. The shirts are made in the traditional way, using traditional skills. Each is cut out by Roy and then sewn together by Helen in their workshop, no band saws or automatic machines, just scissors and a sewing machine. This is what small scale production looks like with each piece completely unique.

The fit is what we would call standard, Luca is wearing a medium as he always does and I wear an XL, like always. These jerseys are made from from 100% so we highly recommend a cool wash and leaving to line dry, PLEASE NO TUMBLE DRIER!! I could not be more proud of these tops and I am super excited to see what you think.

An amazing jersey, wonderful manufacturing and it just so happens to look ace. I’ll take that.
