The ‘6-Mile’ hoodie has a really good name and an even better story. About seven years ago, I wrote to our friend Karandeep and asked if he could make me some hoodies. For one reason or another, it didn’t work out. Then about five months ago, out of nowhere, he accidentally emailed me (genuinely) and being deeply superstitious, I took this as a sign and began work on the ‘6-Mile’ hoodie.
The cotton fabric for the hoodie is made in Leicester. It is soft, durable and comes in a SUPER hefty 500gsm. After being knitted it is then washed, scrubbed and finished in Leicester and then sent to Karandeep in (you guessed it) Leicester for him to cut, sew, embroider and finish before sending to lovely Lancashire (not Leicester). Even the fancy draw cord is made in Leicester by one of the last remaining rope makers in the country – they also make boot laces for some of the biggest brands in the world, so we thought they should make our cords.
The fabric is a hefty 500gsm (because we like heavy fabrics) that has a compacted French Terry back which combines the best bits of loopback and brushed all in one fabric. The hoodies feature flatlock stitching throughout to improve the durability and because it looks really nice too. This is a difficult technique that requires years of experience to perfect. The corners of the pockets are bar-tacked to reinforce those stress areas and the hood is fully lined and manufactured in three parts for a custom fit.
The ‘6-Mile’ hoodie is a touch shorter and looser in the way that it fits than our Kershaw hoodie. It has dual side panels for extra stretch and movement when you need it and the waist isn’t as tapered as previous hoodies, giving it a much more relaxed feel. The shorter length of the hoodie means creates a flattering shape which looks a little more modern. It is finished with a slightly longer draw cord for an extra bit of visual interest that I personally love. There is an embroidered ‘T’ on the outside of the cuff so that people see if when you are walking past them in your new-found nonchalant way since wearing this hoodie.
This particular hoodie comes in our Fountain Pen colour way, which is inspired by my favourite ink that I used in my go-to pen throughout high school. It isn’t quite navy blue and it certainly isn’t grey, but this colour helps to give a slightly aged look to your hoodie without you having to wear it for 6 years on a building site. It even has a lovely wash on it to make it look extra worn in, so don’t worry if there are any marks on your lovely sweatshirt, they will wash out… pinky promise!
The hoodie and the components used to make it travel just under six miles from start to finish. In a world where flying components from across the globe to be made in the Far East, then sending the product back to the UK for sale seems like the norm, keeping the manufacture of everything in the same postcode is a truly different way of doing things and I couldn’t be more proud of it.
So go on, treat yourself to the best British-made hoodie around.
Made in England.
