Being from Lancashire, cotton was of huge importance to the people and economy. Machinery was built for the industry by Howard & Bullough, surrounded lots of mills right here in my home town of Accrington. So there will forever be an attachment to the fabric that is far more important than just how we make clothes from it.
At the turn of the 20th Century right up until present day, Lancashire has been pretty good at Cricket, sometimes brilliant, sometimes average. Nowadays when we can just click a button and see what players from all sports across the globe look like, it seems pretty odd to us that a club would need to create something for fans to view and see what their heroes look like.
Every season from 1900 – 1914 (stopped during war periods as cotton was so valuable) and again between 1920 – 1949, the Lancashire County Cricket Board released a large piece of cloth with the team on it. With their faces and names perfectly created by a commissioned artist.
We thought this was something that we needed to have a go at recreating. So, we got in touch with our mate Tom J Newell and asked him to create our ideal basketball squad. We will be doing exactly the same and printing our team on a large piece of Lancashire cotton so you lot can see our dream team.
They are in extremely small numbers and will be coming very soon to the shop so make sure to keep your eyes peeled. Oh and there may be a surprise or two… cough ceefax cough.
