We have had the Montana sweatshirt out for a few days now and the response has been excellent. Seeing as we have had quite a lot of questions about the design influence etc, we thought that we would post on the blog a few things to note about the sweatshirt.
The sweatshirt is named after Joe Montana who is generally regarded as one of, if not the best Quarterback ever to play the game. During his college career at Notre Dame (boo!) Comeback Joe was photographed wearing a sweatshirt that somewhat resembles the Montana sweatshirt as it had a pocket on the front for his playbook and or his gum shield. This got us to thinking how we could improve the design… Moleskin. That’s right, a cloth that is about as British as a very British thing, very hard-wearing and it just so happens to made down the road from TRiCKETT HQ.
We put some elbow patches on the top, not just for decoration, but because this is the area that we always found got ruined first and it made for a good bit of contrast too. Reinforced neck line so that when you spill someones pint down at the Crown, your neck line can return to it’s original form after being scrunched into someones fist.
My favourite bit is the word ‘Offense’ that is screened into the inside of the sweatshirt. This came from a few of the football teams in the late 1940’s that couldn’t afford practice jerseys so what they did was turn their sweatshirts inside out and if they were on the offense it was duly declared across their chest.
I hope that makes you like the sweat a little more. We do more than just drink brews, dream about socks and play with our fantasy league teams you know… sometimes
