Seems that there is a lot of ‘hoo-ha’ for the last 4 years around ‘snap-backs.’ Being a gentleman who has collected sportswear for over 2 decades it always seems odd to see young ladies and gentlemen discussing how they have been wearing snapbacks since they first came out… Ask Eazy-E how long he’s been wearing them. What I find even more odd is the fact that many of the teams that are worn are now defunct teams that the wearer has no idea who the teams are or their history. I suppose we Brit’s don’t really have an equivalent, just seems weird doesn’t it?
Anyways that opening paragraph brings me nicely to my thoughts on the snapback vs. fitted vs. adjustable baseball hats debate. ‘Adjustable, it just the same as a snapback though isn’t it?’ Oh no this is a whole different kettle of fish. The adjustable baseball hat was first used by the now legendary Homestead Grays, who were one of the most famous baseball teams in the Negro Leagues. They made the caps adjustable so that they could be shared amongst the ever-changing members of the team using a piece of leather and a clasp to secure the desired fit. Josh Gibson aka ‘The Black Babe Ruth’ was often pictured in his hat and even sold a few along the way too. I guess the rest is history, that is why the new cap that we will be releasing soon will pay homage to this fit, so keep your eyes peeled as we will be launching the hat fairly soon.
