Some of the more sporting anoraks amongst you will have noticed Mr. Salvador Reyes Monteón on the picture to the left and will know what he signifies, however for the normal amongst us here is a little story.
Salvador played for Guadalajara for all of his career and is still to this day the highest scoring player for the team. What makes Mr. Monteón more important is that he is the oldest player ever to kick a ball in a competitive game. On the 19th January 2008 he kicked the ball a few times at the tender age of 71 and was quickly substituted.
I thought I would mention this as we are all getting a little over excited about how Manchester United have two of the oldest players in the league. I think the way to look at it is not in terms of age, but contribution. If you are able and can still contribute to your teams goals, then age is no worry. Scholes for England?
